Cardiff are ready to wrap up the signing of Liverpool's Craig Bellamy after his participation in the London 2012 Olympics ended with Team GB's elimination.
The Welsh striker could not help as Stuart Pearce's side lost on penalties to South Korea and now will turn his attention to his club future.
Liverpool are reluctantly willing to let Bellamy go for personal reasons - he is keen to move closer to his family back home.
The 33-year-old went on loan for a season to Cardiff between 2010-11 and although QPR want him, he is likely to return there.
His current club would rather sell him to the Welsh side so he does not come back to hurt them in the Barclays Premier League.
Malky Mackay would love to bring Bellamy back to the Cardiff City Stadium - and he can link up there with Heidar Helguson.
Cardiff signed the 34-year-old from QPR at the start of August for an undisclosed fee.
Another striker on the way out at Anfield could be England international Andy Carroll.
It is thought he will not fit into Brendan Rodgers' favoured system and both Newcastle and West Ham are interested in the target man.
